The Dairy Alliance, a nonprofit funded by dairy farm families in the Southeast, is supporting student-athletes at the TSSAA BlueCross State Basketball Championships by distributing nutrient-rich real dairy milk following each game. The championships are being hosted at Middle Tennessee State University's F&M Bank Arena, with girls' games scheduled for March 11–14 and boys' championships following on March 18–21. Through its Milk's Got Game® initiative, the organization will provide real dairy milk to help athletes refuel, rebuild muscle, and rehydrate after competition.
"Real dairy milk delivers high-quality protein, carbohydrates, and natural electrolytes that help student-athletes refuel and rebuild after intense competition," said Joanne Engelhardt-Risko, Chief Marketing Officer at The Dairy Alliance. Mayfield Dairy will supply the milk for the championships, giving athletes access to what the alliance describes as proven recovery benefits. The partnership extends beyond athlete support to fan engagement, with the alliance sharing branded giveaways and highlighting nutritional information throughout the event.
The TSSAA has recognized the Dairy Alliance as its Official Milk Partner, with the organization maintaining a presence at the basketball championships. This collaboration emphasizes community connections between local dairy farmers and schools, aiming to support athlete health and performance. The Dairy Alliance supports youth athletics across the Southeast through various partnerships, working to bring dairy farm families, student-athletes, schools, and fans together. The organization promotes the role of real dairy milk in athletic performance both on and off the court.
This initiative matters because it demonstrates how targeted nutritional support can enhance athletic recovery while strengthening ties between agricultural producers and educational institutions. By providing scientifically-backed recovery nutrition at a major high school sporting event, the partnership validates dairy's role in sports performance while creating positive associations with dairy products among young athletes and their communities. The program serves as a model for how industry organizations can contribute to youth sports in meaningful ways that benefit both participants and local economies.
The Dairy Alliance's involvement in the championships represents a strategic approach to promoting dairy consumption through athletic partnerships. More information about their initiatives is available at https://thedairyalliance.com. The organization's presence at these high-profile events helps normalize dairy milk as a recovery beverage choice for athletes while educating the broader community about dairy's nutritional value. This type of targeted programming has implications for how food producers can engage with youth sports to promote healthy habits and product awareness.
